Guests started to arrive at 7.30 pm and we and other close family members were ready to welcome the guests.Drinks were served in the foyer of the ballroom while the guest mingled. The reception girls were seated at the table to help guest locate their seats.
At 8.30 pm the MC ,Barnie Redzan announced the arrival of the VVIPs who were ushered to the VVIP table ,followed by the arrival of close family members who sat at "merenjis" chairs in front of the stage.
The arrival of the bride and groom was then announced. The dancers walked in first and lined the red carpet. The 6 bridesmaids then walked in and formed a straight line. The bride and groom then walked in accompanied by the best man and main bridesmaid. They stopped at the end of the Ballroom and praises to the Prophet (pbuh) was recited by the Ustaz(religious teacher). Once that was over the couple walked towards the stage followed by the bridemaids, while the dancers threw rose petals as they passed by.All eyes were on the couple,my son looking dashing in his dark suit while the bride looked elegant in the Grecian-inspired white wedding gown.
The couple sat on the dais flanked by the best man and main bridesmaid while the other 6 bridesmaid took their appointed position. The ceremony began with a doa (supplication) recited by the Ustaz (religious man) seeking Allah's blessing to the couple's marriage. The dancers then performed the welcoming dance.
The "merenjis" (blessing) ceremony began starting with the bride's parents and sister and brother-in-law followed by my brother-in-law and wife, my brother and my husband and me. Those who merenjis were presented with "bunga merenjis" a stalk of artificial flower made by Cemara Qaseh Craft. As my mother-in-law,sister and sister-in-law were not fit enough to walk up the steps to the dais, the bride and groom came down for the "adat memohon restu" (seeking blessing) where they kissed the elders' hands and presented them with the "bunga merenjis'.
The couple then walked to the top table followed by all those who "merenjis", for dinner. While dinner was served the dancers performed a couple of dances and the band entertained guest with English and Malay songs.
My husband gave a short speech thanking everybody for their presence and presents. The couple then proceeded to the front of the Ballroom for the cake-cutting ceremony. After cutting the cake the bride and groom fed each other a piece of the cake as a symbol of their love for each other.
The MC then interviewed the couple about how they met and how they describe each other. The couple then mingled with the guest and took pictures with them.
Meanwhile some guest already took to the dance floor to dance the "joget" (traditional Malay dance) and the Poco-poco(line dance). The couple joined the rest on the dance floor. My son then serenade his wife with 2 Beatles song much to the delight of the bride and the rest of the guest. My husband did not want to be outdone and sang "Wonderful Tonight" which I believe was dedicated to me ! The couple then took to the floor for a slow number.
Before the night ended the couple took pictures with friends and family members from both sides.
