Lazy Days in Lombok

If your idea of a perfect holiday is to just do nothing, then Lombok is one of the places to visit. It's not as commercialised as Bali and still retains its rural charm.I am quite good at doing nothing ,so it fits well with my lifestyle. Moreover nothing gives me more happiness than enjoying the sun, sea, sand and sights while doing absolutely nothing.

Accommodation
----------------------
We stayed at the Sheraton Senggigi , a beautiful beach front hotel with a nice swimming pool and a mature garden. We passed our days dipping in the pool and lazing on the deck chairs by the beach , having a snooze or just basking in the sun with the sea breeze blowing against our faces. We enjoyed the simple pleasures of life including watching the sun set.

Things to do
---------------
When we were bored with the same scenery from the hotel (as though that was possible) we took a 15-minute boat ride to one of the three Gili islands, Gili Terawangan. The water is crystal clear, the sand, white and warm. There's snorkeling and other sea sports but we were content with just spending time swimming in the sea and enjoying the warmth of the sun.

On one of the days,we spent some time driving round Lombok taking in the sights and beautiful setting including the boat marina and the Autore pearl farm. Since it was a clear day we could catch a glimpse of Mount Agung in Bali.

Where to eat
----------------
The day we arrived we stopped at Taliwang a suburb of the city of Mataram to eat the ayam Taliwang, chicken served with brain-zapping spicy sambal (chilli sauce), leaving us wanting for more. Seafood dinner on the beach was our other choice of restaurant. There was also an Italian Restaurant next to our hotel called Lotus Bayview Restaurant, operated by an Italian who has married a local girl and made Lombok his home. We liked the food so much that we went there twice. There was also Happy Cafe,a cafe serving local and Western cuisine with a live band playing evergreen music, a short distance from our hotel.

Epilogue
-----------
Our flight back home was cancelled because the runway was not cleared due to a Garuda flight which skidded the day before we were due to fly back. Because of that we had to check in into a hotel in the city. Fortunately although the hotel is in the city its like in a green oasis surrounded by a beautiful garden.
